Institute of Architects, Pakistan was represented at the 38th ARCASIA Council Meeting from 2-4 November 2017 in Kathmandu, Nepal by President IAP Ar. Ali Zafar Qazi & Vice President Fawad Suhail Abbasi. Ar. Amina Qayyum Mirza attended as Observer.
The meeting was in continuation of ARCASIA Forum held in May 2017 at Jaipur in India.
20 Asian Countries were represented except Mongolia. The two new countries Brunei & Myanmar sat in the council for the first time after they were inducted as members in Hong Kong last year. 22 Asian countries are now part of ARCASIA.
The meeting was chaired by President ARCASIA, Ar. Jahangir Khan Sherpao with his team comprising of Hon. Secretary ARCASIA Ar. Ramiz Baig & Hon. Treasurer ARCASIA Ar. Sannah Ejaz. Vice Presidents Zone A, B, C & Advisors, Committee Chairs except ACAE were all represented.
A number of MOU’s were approved by the Council while inclusion of some new countries in ARCASIA is also under consideration. President ARCASIA apprised the Council of the projects he took up since he took office in January 2017. Vice Presidents Zone A, B, & C also presented their reports and spoke about the initiatives each zone has taken in the last one year. The Chairmenn of five committees (ACAE, ACGSA, ACPP, ACSR, ACYA) also presented their detailed reports on the projects executed and their future proposals for ARCASIA.
Elections for Deputy Chairs ACAE, ACGSA, ACPP, ACSR, ACYA & President- Elect were also held. Ar. Rita Soh from Singapore Institute of Architects was elected President ARCASIA 2019-2020 and won 15/5 against Ar. Abu Sayeed from Institute of Architects, Bangladesh. She will take over with her new Council in January 2019 from Ar. Jahangir Khan Sherpao.
The event comprised of a two day Council meeting, welcome dinner, networking dinner, friendship night and a heritage walk on 5th November 2017 at the completion of the official events.
