IAP DESIGN EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2019

The IAP Award 2019 was organized by the Institute of Architects, Pakistan to encourage and acknowledge exemplary architectural work done by Architects in Pakistan. This nation-wide Excellence Award 2019 was open to all IAP Members in good standing. The main objective of these biennial Awards was to inspire architecture in harmony with the unique cultural values and national aspirations. This encouraged awareness and enhance the role of the profession of architecture and architects in the socio-economic and cultural life of our country.

The ambitious task was handed over to Executive Committee of the Rawalpindi/ Islamabad Chapter hosting the awards in Islamabad for the first ever time. IAP National Council voted in the favor of Ar. Salman Mansoor, being the Convener Awards and custodian of constituting a jury panel representing all chapters of Pakistan. The jury comprised of Ar. Naheed Mashooqullah from Karachi, Ar. Isbah Hassan from Lahore, Ar. Arif Masoud from Islamabad, Ar. M. Arif Changezi being IAP President, Ar. Salman Mansoor being Convener & an acclaimed artist Jamal Shah as a non-architect personality.

IAP National Council made the first announcement of awards documents dated 16th April 2019 through a mass email circulation to all the members along sharing it on website & social media. Following categories were mentioned for participation:

 

CATEGORIES OF AWARD

The Categories under which the Awards shall be considered in the 2018-19 cycle are:

CATEGORY A : RESIDENTIAL PROJECTS

Category A-1 : Single-Family Residential Projects

Category A-2 : Multiple Family Units

 

CATEGORY B : AMENITY BUILDING

Category B-1 : Buildings up to 25,000 sft. Covered area

Category B-2 : Buildings with covered area above 25,000 sft.

Included in these two sub-categories shall be Hotels, Educational Buildings, Health Care Buildings, Commercial centers, Religious Buildings, Resorts & Recreational Spaces, Shopping Malls, Office Buildings and Sports Complexes.

 

CATEGORY C : INDUSTRIAL BUILDINGS

Included in this category shall be Factories, Warehouses and Manufacturing Facilities

 

CATEGORY D : RESTORATION & ADAPTIVE RE-USE BUILDINGS

Adaptive Re-use projects, which conserve or restore the Architectural Heritage of Pakistan, are included in this Category

 

CATEGORY E : ARCHITECTURAL INTERIORS

Category E-1 : Interior space up to 5000 sft.

Category E-2 : Interior space with covered area above 5000 sft.

Included in this category will be the interiors of offices, Banks, Commercial / Retail Outlets and Residences.

 

CATEGORY F : YOUNG ARCHITECTS AWARDS

Award in this category shall be given to the best entry submitted for the above categories by member less than 40 years at the time of the First Submission.

 

CATEGORY G : SPECIAL DESIGN AWARDS

These awards are given to entries that, by virtue of their function, size and scale, do not fit into any of the above-mentioned categories. Designs like public toilets, bus stops, roundabouts, kiosks, installations and public squares are some projects amongst the many other that can be submitted.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE

Announcement of the Award : 16th April’ 2019

Deadline for first stage submission : 14th May’ 2019

First Jury Meeting by : 17th & 18th May’ 2019

Deadline for Second Stage (Final) submission : 26th June’ 2019

Final Jury Meeting by : 29 & 30th June’ 2019

IAP Award Ceremony : 13th July’ 2019

 

REPORT ON JURY PROCEEDINGS:

The Jury for the First Stage met on 17th May’ 2019 at Hotel Crown Plaza, Islamabad. A total of 47 entries were received initially, out of which 21 were shortlisted for the Second Stage.

The Jury for the second stage met on 29th June’ 2019 at Pakistan National Council of the Arts, Islamabad. Following jury members were present.

  • Naheed Mashooqullah ( Karachi )
  • Arif Masoud ( Islamabad )
  • Syed Jamal Shah ( DG PNCA )
  • Isbah Hassan ( Lahore)
  • Salman Mansoor ( Convener )

A total of 21 entries were received for 2nd Stage Evaluation.

The Jury reviewed all submission individually and collectively, and after detailed deliberations, was pleased to announce the following Awards and Honorable Mentions in some of the Categories:
