Architects Regional Council Asia recognized the role of architects in disaster mitigation and recovery program after the occurrence of several natural disasters in the region. ARCASIA joined hands with Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) to plan and organize a training workshop aimed at introducing understanding of disaster, risk management and recovery systems to decrease destructive consequences on societies.

The first training was successfully held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia in April 2018, hosted by Ikatan Arsitek Indonesia (Indonesian Institute of Architects) (IAI) under the ARCASIA banner. The second training was held in Islamabad, Pakistan from 30th October to 2nd November 2018. The training was hosted by Institute of Architects Pakistan – Rawalpindi / Islamabad Chapter (IAP – RIC).

The objectives of the workshop included introductions and discussions on disaster and risk management, disaster and climate risk management systems, emergency architects in disaster risk reduction, mainstreaming DRM/R into the urban and rural, enabling environments for emergency architects and learning and facilitation in scenarios.
